Ever hear the advice: “Be careful what you ask for, you might get it?”

Why do we have to be careful when we want something? Because the power of the word Want is tricky.

We all want things (things we desire, wish, crave, demand and need) . To say, “ I want a hamburger or I want a new car, I want the purple shirt.”.. is common and we usually meet those needs ourselves.

However, there is a ‘distorted’ form of wanting- the tricky wanting. For example, “I just want everything to be ok, I want people to get along, I want it to be fair, I don’t want things to change….as Ms. Universe would say, “I want world peace,” .

In saying “I want” implies you – you alone are responsible for what you are wanting. The word “I” is separate from our collective “we”. So the trickiness of Wanting becomes distorted when it involves the use of someone else’s energy that their soul may not be wanting. This distorted form of wanting can creates negative karmic cycles in your life- thus proverbial “Be careful what you ask for.. you might get it.”

So…where does this leave Manifesting?

Manifesting is not wishful thinking where you sit back and have a fairy godmother do your bidding. –

Manifesting is putting your physical energy to a clear, intentful thought energy.

A great example of manifesting is in that college essay prompt: “Where do you see yourself in five years?”

The student says, I see myself as a doctor working in pediatrics.

And then the energy of the student’s thoughts moves through the universe and the student goes to school, studies, learns, interns and one day looks back and goes wow- I am a doctor working in pediatrics!

Another incredible example in the United States:

In 1845 a Newspaper editor John O’Sullivan coined the term ‘manifest destiny’ to describe the belief that God intended for the United States to occupy North America from Atlantic to Pacific. And it took 100 years for that to happen!

Manifesting is planning, working towards a goal in good faith. The power in manifesting is being absolutely clear on your intent of the outcome and allowing the space and time for the energy of your work coalesce and for the universe to guide you.

Challenge:

I have a challenge for you today: Being aware of when you say the word “want”.

The next time you are having a conversation listen- listen to your words or the other persons words.

1. How many times did you hear the word, “Want” in the dialogue? For my own personal study I counted no less than 20 “I want’s” in a phone 15 minute call; and they were all what I would consider Distorted Wants.

2. The next part of the challenge:

How many times do you hear yourself or others say I Manifest, I envision, It is clear to me: …”

3.Ask yourself is this “want” something I should ask for, is it worth time and energy to manifest, or am I wasting time and energy of talking/ complaining.

As you become aware of your thoughts and words, specifically about wanting, you will realize

We confuse the two words : Want and manifesting all the time. It makes a difference in sending the thought energy into the universe.

For example: Let’s take the phrase, “ I want world peace.” A way to transition the feeling of peace in your world, start smaller. “ I envision peace in my home.” And when you have manifested this you can take it further- to your workplace, church, community. When you still envision something greater, you can train your brain to think, “ World Peace would be beautiful, how can I be part of the process of we?”

In closing, I want to share the Buddhist mantra : “Want nothing from anyone or anything.” That mantra releases all the negative karma from wanting things that are not for the taking.

And leaves open the space for all the manifesting of our goals and visions to become true.
